The story of how a mere auto driver Gowri Shankar became one of most dreaded criminals and a cold-blooded murderer of his time is dramatically presented in the series Auto Shankar that is now streaming on ZEE5. This series which takes a neutral stand when it comes to the narration of the tale is well crafted and shot but what also plays a significant part is the portrayal of the central characters by seasoned actors.
Watch issues that haunt Shankar in the series Auto Shankar.
Apart from being an honest take on the life and doings of Shankar, this series makes a noteworthy point and that is something which I personally like and think is one of the basic reasons which leads to the creation of vices like Shankar. In the series, we see that Auto Shankar is but a common man, with the fears and flaws of a common man but what makes him stand out is the manner in which he chooses to overcome his fear, which is by putting up a show of violence and vigour.
It is no surprise that Shankar grabbed power when he got an opportunity with zeal but what is surprising that he was given that chance to grab the power by the very people who were entrusted with the responsibility of serving and protecting people.
Shankar was not always a killer, he was a man struggling to meet the ends, so as to provide his child with a proper upbringing. But his desperation made him retaliate and it was this retaliation that the cop wanted to use to defeat another illicit liquor baron Ramajayam.
Shankar was a strong character but he did not realise that the bureaucrats and politicians who created him did not want him to have an independent opinion. They wanted him to be their puppet. In this respect Shankar’s plight was no different from the sex workers whom he used the control, they both were exploited for their desperation to live in this world.
So, what do you think about Auto Shankar’s character? Let us know your opinion in the section below.
